AN HOMAGE TO THE FUTURE
The Modernist movement has always been about looking forward, ensuring that its finest works exude a timeless elegance. Drawing inspiration from the ingenuity of modernist sculptors, Studio Bookmark’s first collection of hand-cast brass and bronze architectural hardware pays homage to the masters who helped shape the world of modern art and design.
This collection was born during a visit to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, where we viewed an exhibit of Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s art. Among the works on display, a desk she designed for Ernest Rott’s Paris apartment c. 1929 stood out to us. Crafted from black lacquered wood and tubular steel, this desk exuded a timeless modernity reminiscent of Marcel Breuer’s iconic designs. However, it was the understated elegance and playfulness of the simple post and ball knobs that truly captured our imaginations.

These knobs, with their delicate proportions and sculptural allure, served as the catalyst for our ‘Sculptor Series’ - a collection of handcrafted modern hardware that attempts to seamlessly merge form and function. Each piece in this collection is meticulously crafted in our Austin workshop using sandcasting and finishing methods inspired by art casting foundries and bronze sculpture.
We have partnered with J&L Hardware, an exclusively to-the-trade showroom in Austin, to carry the Sculptor Series line. To schedule an appointment to see the collection in person, or to make any other inquiries, please reach out to info@jlhardwareatx.com.
